Mark Gwynne Jones

Mark offers lively and interactive workshops in poetry and performance. His approach is described as 'animated… an enthusiastic outburst of creativity and co-operation' (John Gill, St. Benedict's Derby). He works with all ages and has held writing residencies with The Harley Gallery; The National Trust; Sudbury Prison and Service Children's Education in Germany and the Netherlands. The European Academy; The Arvon Foundation and the Cornerhouse Cinema, Manchester have also employed his skills as poet and performer.

Workshops are tailored to suit a school or group's requirements but would typically explore:

  • the sounds of words and how we use them
  • the magic words possess to create pictures
  • writing techniques
  • performing techniques
  • interactive games of metaphor and imagination

Drawing from three collections: Pickety Pockety Poems (Last Gasp Records, 1995); The Natterjack Toad and Other Accidents (SolarPress, 2001) and Psychicbread (Route, 2003), Mark's show is a powerful mix of theatre, comedy and bewildered innocence.

'His style of writing and performing is unique and no-one who has heard him will forget the experience… ... Not just a wild performer but an artist-poet who takes an intelligent and thoughtful look at the world.'.
